frequently asked questions
Here are some of the questions I get asked often.

Isn’t Life coaching a bit ‘airy fairy’ - I just need help to lose weight?
The ‘airy fairy’ question! I love this one – I used to think the same thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love a bit of incense wafting around, but Life Coaching for weight-loss isn’t at all ‘airy fairy’.
Together we (client and I) approach their weight-loss holistically, focusing not only on nutrition, but just as importantly – their mind-set. This is done by talking about a lot of food related issues; working with Holistic Nutrition, thought processes around food decisions as well as some written exercises, none being the least bit airy fairy! The third part of the equation is the actual Coaching; where, together we set goals and make plans for their weight-loss success so that ultimately relationships with food are changed, using practical, straight-forward strategies.
weight-loss coaching questions
It seems expensive, is it really worth it?
Well, this is a good one too – To be honest, most of my clients come to me as a last resort, having tried every single diet known to man; some have seen dietitians or even hypnotherapy in its many forms (imaginary gastric bands!)– costing a ‘collective fortune’. Think about how much you’ve spent over the years only to end up back at square one..
Because Holistic Nutrition focuses on plain, simple, good old-fashioned whole foods, the shopping bill can actually go down a lot, and the feedback I’ve received from clients is that overall they’re spending less money, getting their health back, and gaining the skills and mind-set to make sure their results last a lifetime.
Am I signing my life away? How long will I be seeing you for?
Definitely not signing your life away! Lots of clients just pay per session, or you have an option of getting a nice discount if you want to pay for a little block at a time.
How long we work together depends on you! Where you're at now with your weight, how much you want to lose, how we structure your weight-loss journey etc. Some people have 2-3 sessions to get themselves back on track, other clients come for much longer periods of time - again depending on their weight-loss goals, and their current relationship with, and mind-set about food.
This came to me by email...
I wanted to ask you this but was too shy to ring. I am very overweight and deeply ashamed with myself and am so touchy about it that I'm frightened I'll get upset and cry when we talk about it directly. It's my secret distress that I can't hide from, even under baggy clothes, and I;m truly desperate to change and even looked at surgery. Every time I try to diet, it works for a little while then I give up, and cry myself to sleep. Can you help me?
This email broke my heart, because I can really understand how this lady was feeling, as I too, have been there and experienced those same feelings. I approach Weight-loss Coaching with a very kind, gentle and non-judgemental manner, and always make sure that my clients are comfortable and feel safe opening up about what is holding them back, and help move forward through these negative self beliefs and thoughts surrounding food.
You CAN do this, and you ARE worth it, and it is so much easier with someone to guide you, and help you through every single step of the way. If this ladys email to me also resonates with you -then please do get in touch and we can talk about your journey, and where we can take it together....
PS This lady has been working with me now for a few months and has had a huge mind-shift in terms of her nutrition and lifestyle around food, and along with some big weight-loss, her life has changed in many different, unexpected and exciting ways.
Is Life Coaching the same as Counselling? I just need to lose weight, not counselling!
Actually the two are vastly different, albeit with some similarities – confusing right? Here are the fundamental differences...
Counselling focuses on what’s holds a person back.
Coaching is present-orientated focusing on moving the client forward.
Counselling helps a person with a specific problem.
Coaching helps a person achieve a specific goal.
Counselling helps people address and solve problems and move towards healing from trauma, mood disorders, addictions etc.
Coaching helps people who are mentally healthy achieve goals, stay motivated, explore options, change mind-sets and overcome obstacles.
. I’ve tried so many times before, how can this possibly work for me?
If your time has come and you’re ready to focus on yourself, ready to commit to losing weight AND you’re ready to take positive steps to achieve it, then you will absolutely benefit from weight-loss coaching because you don’t have to struggle along on your own anymore. Coaching helps keep you on track, keep you motivated, and most importantly – accountable to yourself.
Unlike other options you have probably tried, the way I work one-to-one with my clients using the 'three pronged' approach of Nutrition, Mind-set and Coaching, means their weight comes off, and stays off.
Is coaching like mentoring or training?
As a Life coach, I assume that you are the expert in your own life, and so would never tell you what to do! Mentoring usually has some elements of coaching but differs in that the mentor also offers guidance based on their own experience. So, in this way, when we are working with Food Diaries and Holistic Nutrition, and my own personal weight-loss success – mentoring does come into it a little bit, but Coaching is where, together we set goals and make plans for weight-loss success using practical, straight-forward strategies. It's not training because we are working together, to help you find your own path. If you are being told what to do, or how to solve a problem, then it’s not coaching.
